Welcome to Lac La Hache — Where History Meets Outdoor Adventure

The community of Lac La Hache is nestled along the shores of a beautiful lake that shares its name. The origin of “lake of the axe” comes from a popular tale about an early settler who accidentally dropped his axe into the icy water while chopping a hole in the ice. Since then, many have followed suit, using axes to break through the ice and enjoy some of the best ice fishing around. During the summer months, anglers, loons, and eagles can often be seen patiently waiting for their next catch.

Lac La Hache is also home to Mt. Timothy Ski Hill, an under-the-radar favorite for winter sports enthusiasts. Sitting at 1,654 meters elevation with a vertical drop of 284 meters, Mt. Timothy offers a modern triple chairlift, a well-appointed day lodge, and more than 34 runs suitable for all skill levels — all on consistently deep, dry powder snow.

Accommodations abound year-round, with lakeside resorts, cozy B&Bs, guest ranches, and motels ready to welcome you. Seasonal campgrounds provide plenty of space for RVs and tents, offering easy access to swimming, boating, jet skiing, or simply soaking up the sun on the shore.
